Fr. Jim meets with Rodel Ramos the eldest son of MOSPI

Fr. Jim met with Rodel today to learn how life is for Rodel. Rodel has a first born son, named Arn David Ramos who celebrates his first birthday on the 24th August.
Rodel is presently employed by Department of Education as a public school teacher. He teaches Culiat Elementary School. A Muslim school specialising in Madrasah Islamic Values and Arabic languages.

Rodel is currently enrolled in a academic course for educational management. Rodel will then undergo a comphrension examination before taking his Thesis to obtain a Masters Degree. The JTJ. Trust Fund has financed his degree.

In 2009 Rodel was sent to Singapore to attend the International Science Conference to acquire new teaching methods to be used in schools in the Philippines. 2010 Rodel went to Mindanao to attend to attend a seminar on journalism. 2011 Rodel went to Marikina to attend a Digital Workshop. This involved learning new computer technologies in order to teach his students.

Rodel holds another position in the school as Science School Demonstrator. This involves scientific experiments with the students of the school. Rodel also trains students in Filippino Journalism. He is also ICT consultant.

Rodel attends and gives seminar on teaching strategy. He gives seminars to the teachers of MOSPI.

Rodel earns enough to support himself and his young family while financially responsible for the wellbeing of his parents. This responsibility to his family comes before any duty to MOSPI.

Rodel, a child of MOSPI has achieved a good position in life with every opportunity of promotion and financial stability. MOSPI and Rodel's own efforts made all this possible and he hopes that all poor children will be given the opportunity and hope that MOSPI gave to him. Rodel thanks the JTJ Trust Fund for their help in his achievements.

All of the money raised goes direct to the Incorporations to assist the poor.

Lloyd's TSB are the only institution to receive money from the monies raised by the Trust Fund. This money is received by them to cover their banking transfer costs. Every other penny goes to help the children. All of the trustees, fundraisers and any other persons associated with the UK charity do so on a voluntary basis with no expenses being given to them from the Trust Fund this includes the cost any airline flights made by the trustees to the Philippines. This will remain the norm for those who wish to help in any way now or in the future.

All of the work done by the two Filipino Incorporations are community based. All schools and orphanages are and will continue to be built in the midst of the poor peoples homes. The children of both Incorporations are actively engaged in the life and activities of the local community just as the local community are encouraged to be actively engaged in the work of the two incorporations. The buildings are used by everyone living in the local community in order to promote a sense of belonging to a good and vibrant community.

Donate £500 a year to support a child in all its needs.

Throughout the period 1998 to 2008 the normal annual donation to support a child of MOSPI remained at £380. During the past year or so the Phillipine Peso has lost a third of its value against sterling. Due to the worldwide recession £500 is needed to maintain a similar support of a child of MOSPI over the coming year. The value of the Peso has dropped considerably and 50kgs of Rice costs approx. Php. 1500 = £24. That is the cost of a days rice for the children of Mospi and ACFSPI.
Prostitution, Alcoholism, Homelessness, family breakdown premature death and suicide are common among the young. Many of the 770,000 poor families of the city who survive on an average of one to two dollars a day are suffering tragic circumstances because of the economic downturn. There are a lot more malnourished and abandoned children who need our help. Many poor children are in danger of severe malnourishment and premature death because they are denied the basic needs to stay alive.

Education and work are the only means by which so many poor can be given hope of a better future. Education frees the people so please help us to educate the young especially those young who belong to the poorest of families.

Freddie born into the Dumagat Tribe and is a child of MOSPI writes his-story.

FREDDIE M CRUZ
I am Freddie M. Cruz, I’m 16 year old residing at Mater Orphanorum. I am first year high school, studying at the school built by the orphanage. I belong to a tribal minority called DUMAGAT, I am similar to Aetas I’m dark and my hair is curly. I am jolly person I’m easy to be with. My father is the chieftain of our tribe, we live in the mountain and our primary source of living is farming, making charcoal and carrying heavy logs for industrial use. My life in the mountain is so difficult I need to force myself to help my parents to earn money for our food, at my age I carrying heavy logs and bring it down on the foot of the mountain and sell it to a lower price. People said doing this kind of work is illegal because we cut a tree without permit on government since I am minor the soldiers or the police will not put me in the jail they just confiscated the logs. My parents can’t able me to send to the school because we don’t have money and the school is so far away from our home, it takes 2 days before you reach the school.

Year 2004, our land is being claiming and forcing our tribe to leave in my native land. These people threatening my race to vacant the place. My race is really scared and they need a literate person to fight for our rights to the land. The institution save us on this scenario they offer the orphanage as our temporary shelter and a place where my parents and some people help us to make a plan. My tribe is so happy when the land returns to us.
